Newk's gives new meaning to fresh food

Tired of searching for a place to eat that pleases everyone in the family? Have picky kids? We've found the perfect place! Newk's Eatery is located off of Shallowford Road behind Embassy Suites/Ruth's Chris. You are greeted immediately when you walk in and everyone is friendly and very helpful. They have a condiment bar for all your salad and sandwich needs. The kitchen is open with a counter and chairs so that you can sit and watch your food being made. We ordered one of everything on the menu except for dessert since we were too full after all that food. We ordered the Ultimate Salad. It has sliced flame-grilled chicken breast, diced smoked ham, diced oven-roasted turkey, mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, aged cheddar cheese, house made croutons and made from scratch honey mustard dressing. Everything is tossed together then put in a bowl. This salad was the best that I've had in a long time! It's fresh, light and clean tasting. It will be perfect on a hot, sunny summer day. The only thing about it is my fiancée said he wished they would ask if you would like a different dressing other than the honey mustard since he doesn't like that type of dressing. That doesn't mean he didn't like the salad though.
They have different soups for each day and we decided on the Steak and Farro. It had good flavor, small chunks and/or shreds of steak. It was in too big of a bowl though.
How many of you have kids that are so picky that you can only get them to eat mac n cheese at restaurants? Well, not only do they have great salads for Mom and Dad but, they have some of the best Mac n Cheese in town! The pasta isn't overcooked, so its not mushy, its perfect. The cheese looks like the cheese in a commercial as you bring your fork to your mouth, its gooey and did I mention that its cheesy? We got both of the flavors they have: five cheese and six cheese pimento and bacon. You can't go wrong with either one.

We ordered one of their 10 inch pizzas, the Spicy Shrimp. The only bad thing I can say about this particular pizza is the fact that it was so spicy that almost all flavor was lost in the spiciness. Now, my fiancée is half Puerto Rican and even this pizza was a bit too spicy for him and he loves spicy foods. In fact, although, it was too spicy to enjoy this pizza it still makes our #2 spot for pizza! Sorry guys, Lupi's will always be our #1. But hey, #2 isn't bad at all! The crust is nice and fresh and the flavor of the cheese mixed with the crust is good.
Next,we ordered the Newk's Club and the Shrimp Po Boy. The club is great, the house made honey mustard makes this sandwich one of the best clubs I've had in a while!

The shrimp Po Boy is a little dry. They give you cocktail sauce on the side, my only wish for this sandwich is that either the cocktail sauce be already on the sandwich, or maybe a remoulade or aioli. The shrimp isn't fried and that makes for a healthier option.
Guys, we will definitely be back! We have to try a different pizza and the desserts too(they have made from scratch cakes which we HAVE to try)!

Ooltewah's newest restaurant has soul

Davis Wayne's is located in Cambridge Square in the old Cuban restaurant location. They opened back in October and honestly I wish I would've known about this place before now. Everyone is friendly and that makes you want to come back. Food is very good. The Pork Tenderloin is very good, not too spicy. The mac and cheese is off the chain, very cheesy! The greens are seasoned perfectly, which is hard to find in a restaurant. The broccoli is al dente and also perfectly seasoned and covered in real cheese. You can tell its not cheap, processed cheese. The fried corn is buttery and also seasoned right. The sweet potato casserole is good and is torched on top. Chicken is so tender not even a butter knife is needed to cut it, juicy and flavorful. The cornbread is great! Menu style is different. Now, the desserts are made from scratch every day. Mike's Tavern

Mike's Tavern is located at 5211 HWY 153 in Hixson behind California Tortilla and across the street from Smoothie King. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. The waitress wasn't too far behind getting our drink order. For our appetizer, we ordered the Ahi Tuna over a bed of wasabi slaw. The tuna was so tender and so fresh it tasted like steak. Fish is slowly growing on me, guys. For entrees, I ordered Shrimp and Grits. Blackened jumbo shrimp served over pepper jack grits and finished with andouille cream sauce. The grits were so creamy it melted in your mouth and the shrimp had excellent flavor and wasn't too spicy. My fiance ordered the Grouper sandwich with Southern Slaw as the side.
