Cafe on the Corner

Cafe on the Corner is a restaurant located atop of scenic Lookout Mountain. If you haven't been there before it can be easy to miss (I drove right past it). If you pass the post office you've gone too far and even that's easy to miss. It is a perfect spot for a romantic date, they have a fireplace and candles on the tables that set the mood, you can also have your birthday party, rehearsal dinner, meetings, etc. For appetizer, we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes. These are some of the best we have had! They were crunchy on the outside and not too mushy or hard on the inside. There was no need for the sauce but, the other toppings made it taste good.
For entrée, I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and had a coconut taste to them. Together with the sauce it had a great flavor! The shrimp was cooked perfect and had the flavor of the sauce.
My fiancée ordered the Cafe Mac. This is grilled chicken, Benton's bacon, smoked gouda, cheddar, and jack cheeses, and cream sauce over penne pasta. This dish had good flavor, everything was well incorporated. Pasta is usually heavy but, this dish isn't.
Of course, we had to try their homemade Apple Gallet. Baked apple gallet with cinnamon ice cream. If you order this you might not want to share, its basically apple pie with cinnamon ice cream on top. The cinnamon ice cream isn't too strong like I thought it would be.
We will definitely be back because we have our eye on the Mountain Burger, which looked HUGE when they brought it out to someone. They are also in the process of changing their menu for the season, I assume, and I can't wait to see what new dishes they come up with!
