New Texas Roadhouse in Hixson

Fairly new Texas Roadhouse in Hixson is located next to Cook Out on 153. It was packed for a Wednesday night and service was slow due to the fact that the kitchen staff being behind but, I'm sure they weren't expecting a crazy rush on a Wednesday night between 7 and 8. We were seated against the window in a small booth where there was too much on the table. The host takes hot, fresh rolls to your table as they walk you to the table. Regular butter would have been better than cinnamon butter as the rolls are already sweet.
For appetizer, we ordered the Cactus Blossom. I haven't had one in years and it just wasn't as good as I remember. It is too big of an onion for 2 people. Ranch would be better instead of the other sauce you get. The onion would be better with more spice on the onion itself instead of being in the sauce. Some parts of the onion weren't done and raw batter was on the bottom of the plate. We honestly think this shouldn't be their featured item.
I decided to order the Wednesday night special which is an 8 ounce sirloin and shrimp for $10.99. The server assured us that this would be a good deal, that wasn't the case since only 3 shrimp came with it. The steak was well done on one side and as it got closer to the other side it was medium rare and then rare. The green beans were a bit salty. The potatoes were good. The gravy could've been better.

The Porterhouse was cooked fine but was a bit salty. The corn was ok. The baked potato was very good.

Would we come back? MAYBE. That would be to see if things get better (or worse).

Ooltewah's newest restaurant has soul

Davis Wayne's is located in Cambridge Square in the old Cuban restaurant location. They opened back in October and honestly I wish I would've known about this place before now. Everyone is friendly and that makes you want to come back. Food is very good. The Pork Tenderloin is very good, not too spicy. The mac and cheese is off the chain, very cheesy! The greens are seasoned perfectly, which is hard to find in a restaurant. The broccoli is al dente and also perfectly seasoned and covered in real cheese. You can tell its not cheap, processed cheese. The fried corn is buttery and also seasoned right. The sweet potato casserole is good and is torched on top. Chicken is so tender not even a butter knife is needed to cut it, juicy and flavorful. The cornbread is great! Menu style is different. Now, the desserts are made from scratch every day. Mike's Tavern

Mike's Tavern is located at 5211 HWY 153 in Hixson behind California Tortilla and across the street from Smoothie King. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. The waitress wasn't too far behind getting our drink order. For our appetizer, we ordered the Ahi Tuna over a bed of wasabi slaw. The tuna was so tender and so fresh it tasted like steak. Fish is slowly growing on me, guys. For entrees, I ordered Shrimp and Grits. Blackened jumbo shrimp served over pepper jack grits and finished with andouille cream sauce. The grits were so creamy it melted in your mouth and the shrimp had excellent flavor and wasn't too spicy. My fiance ordered the Grouper sandwich with Southern Slaw as the side.
